On Tuesday, March 8, there were nearly 16,000 COVID-19 tests administered in Connecticut, according to the latest update from the Department of Public Health, resulting in 330 confirmed cases of the virus for a 2.07 percent daily positivity rate, down from 2.28 percent.
Eleven more COVID-19 patients were administered to Connecticut hospitals as the number being treated statewide rose to 162.
Of the 162 COVID-19 patients still being treated in Connecticut, officials noted that 70 (43.2 percent) were not fully vaccinated.
According to the Department of Public Health, for the week beginning on Monday, Feb. 20, unvaccinated persons had a 3.1-times greater risk of testing positive for COVID-19 compared to an unvaccinated person. Unvaccinated people also had a 17.5-times greater risk of dying from the virus compared to vaccinated individuals.
Since the pandemic began in March 2020, there have been more than 10,500 virus-related deaths.
More than 15.25 million COVID-19 tests have been administered since the pandemic began in Connecticut two years ago, resulting in a total of 729,063 confirmed cases of the virus.
The latest breakdown of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths in Connecticut since the beginning of the pandemic, by county on Wednesday, March 9:
- Fairfield: 199,642 (2,653 deaths);
- New Haven: 192,702 (2,755);
- Hartford: 175,119 (3,060);
- New London: 53,972 (634);
- Litchfield: 31,313 (450);
- Middlesex: 27,528 (475);
- Windham: 25,443 (294);
- Tolland: 20,189 (264);
- Unknown: 2,825 (6).
As of March 8, more than 3 million Connecticut residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and more than 2.6 million have completed the vaccination process. The state has also administered nearly 1.5 million booster shots.
